بصعوبة دفع إبراهيم باب السيارة ونزل . لبث يتأمل شساعة المكان من تلك النقطة التي بدت له تافهة، لم يكن يعتقد أنه سيتوقف هنا يوما ، فقد كانت الطريق التي أتت به من مكان ما لم يعد يذكره طويلة جدا ، وقد بدت خلفه ذيلا أرهقته الشمس لمئات الأعوام ، ونظر إلى المسافرين الأربعة مثله ، ينزلون بإرهاق ، خلف السائق الذي أسرع إلى غطاء المحرك ورفعه ، وهو ممسك بجالون ماء ، راح يفرغه في المبرد بسرعة .
